I'm an engineer who loves an adventure. Some previous adventures include moving from Australia to Seattle, mountains, water, and working at a couple of technology startups.
My biggest adventure yet started this year, with the birth of my son.
While I studied Electrical Engineering & Economics, I keep getting drawn towards software, DevOps, and particularly "the cloud". From giant corporations to tiny startups, I've collected a few stories & lessons along the way.
Some mantra's I've developed along the way.
- Tell them stories.
- How dumb would we look in the accident report?"
- Just use what everybody else is using.
- Your test coverage is always 0.
- The three laws of UI testing are: 1) Never do UI testing, 2) If your team decides to do UI testing, make sure it's not your job, 3) Be nice to the person who has to maintain the UI tests.
- The only way to make sure a test never fails again is to delete it.
- The only way to make sure an alert never fires again is to delete it.
